Hinduism is one of the world’s oldest religions. It was developed slowly over time with no one founder; instead Hindu’s gained their beliefs from all different beliefs and religions. It is in this way that there are very few rules to Hinduism.
There are, however, a common set of nine beliefs:
1. Hindu’s believe in one almighty God, however, there is over 33 million different god and goddesses.
These gods and goddesses represent either the attributes of the almighty God or the evil forces that try to overtake humans. These are called the ‘antigods’ and in old mythical tales, the god always defeats the antigod eventually.
There are many festivals celebrated in the Hindu religion, in fact, there is at least one festival for every god and goddess in the Hindu religion.
2. The divinity of the Vedas. These are Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda are they are the four most ancient scriptures that contain hymn, ritual. Gods etc.,
3. Reincarnation. Humans will return to Earth for another chance at life after death. The being they return as symbolises their success in their previous life.
4. Karma. This is the balance of the universe and the Hindu's believe that if someone does something bad or good, something bad/good good will come to them in turn.
5. Cycles of creation. This is the belief that the Earth is constantly going through cycles of creation, being renewed again.
6. Divine beings. That divine beings exist beyond our earth and humans can only be brought closer to them through worship and ritual.
7. Love. According to Hinduism, all life is sacred and everyone must strive to love each other.
8. Care. There is no hierarchy and all animals, people, being must be treated equally.
9. That no religion will show you the only path and that, instead they believe that if one is following a true path, that is God’s path.
